We are a Kent based Sea Angling Club/Community called Matsac (Medway & Thames Sea Angling Club). Most of the members are Sea Anglers but we cater for Anglers of any type. Wether you like going out Wreck fishing, off the Beach or sat round a lake or by a River, all are welcome to post on our message boards. We have Kent Sea Angling Forums (seperate registration) and theres this part of the site where you can leave the odd status updates, form a Group or build your own Wordpress Blog with a gallery. We welcome members countrywide, its always nice to hear about other areas, or get your friends and form a Group, the choice is yours.

If you want a Blog but dont know where to start i would be happy to build it for you to get you going.

If you have any Technical questions regarding the site please use our FAQ section, if what you need isnt there please use the FAQ form to ask the question.

Whats about in kent at the moment ?

With the Cod out chasing the Sprats all thats likely to be caught around Kent are Dabs, Flounders and Whiting, Cod will be caught but are few and far between. This is the way this time of year, Soon the Cod will start feeding again and a few decent fish will be caught right into March and sometimes April. The rivers will soon pick up, there was Cod being caught from Greenhithe up to Shorne fort plus theres always the chance of a Bass or shortly a very early Sole.

From about the end of Feb, start March the Rays will start to show, the timing is generally dependant on the temperature. They generally show around Sheerness and Minnis bay/Reculver first but the odd one comes out around Margate and Sandwich.

Leysdown is generally a good place to start, also the Ship and Shore, Bartons point, Warden point and Eastchurch (bit of a walk down the cliff).

They start to show in numbers at Sandwich in April and at the right time the fishing can be prolific with fish approaching 16lb recorded.

Best baits of late are Bluey, Herring, Squid and Ragworm but a combination of the first 2 is what most use.

Rigs are down to personal choice but most use long pulley pennels (3-4 foot) with 30-40lb snoods and 3/0-4/0  strong Hooks. Other rigs to use are up and over, fixed pennel, clipped up running rig.

A tip for Sheerness is to get there at low tide when the waters about to turn, walk right out to the water and have a long cast. This gives you the chance of having your bait right out when the fish come on the feed, this is generally when the tide turns and some good fish fell to this method last year. Baitbags full of old fishy bits pinned out at the low tide mark can also be effective for bringing the fish that much closer for those of us that cant cast 250 yards!
